Matthew specialises in international arbitration and litigation that has a political or geopolitical component to the underlying dispute. He acts for sovereign states, multinationals, banks and family offices across a range of sectors with a focus on oil and gas, the extractive industry and banking.
Matthew is also well-known for his enforcement work for and against sovereign states. This work includes his development of ‘structured settlement solutions’ (including a new transaction as part of a negotiated settlement) as an alternative to prolonged enforcement action.
Clients engage Matthew to provide advice in the above speciality areas either as sole adviser or to provide support to existing legal teams working on legal disputes that contain a complex political or geopolitical component.
